Life Insurance after cancer

If you've had cancer and you're now in remission, the traditional route may be open to you. That usually means fuller cover and a much bigger payout than guaranteed-acceptance plans.

In short: this route is for people in remission, it can unlock higher sums assured, we search the whole of market, there are no fees to you, no upfront payment and no obligation.

    Who this is for

    Previously diagnosed. Now in remission.

This is the more traditional life insurance route. It's for people who have had cancer, finished treatment, and are now in remission. Being in remission is what creates the opportunity to apply properly and be assessed as an individual rather than a tick-box.

    You've finished treatment

Your treatment is complete and you're being monitored rather than actively treated.

    Time has passed since diagnosis

The longer you've been in remission, the more insurers are willing to look at your application.

You want a larger lump sum

Mortgage protection, family protection, or a meaningful payout to match your responsibilities.

    You've been declined before

A previous decline elsewhere doesn't mean every specialist insurer will say no.

    How the traditional route works

It's a proper application, so there are a few more steps. We handle all of it with you.

    1. 01

      A quick call

Tell us the basics about your diagnosis, treatment and what you want to protect. Nothing lengthy.

    2. 02

      Health and lifestyle questionnaire

We go through a fuller questionnaire with you covering your cancer history, treatment dates and general health.

    3. 03

      GP report

The insurer usually requests a report from your GP to confirm your medical history. You don't have to chase it. We track it for you.

    4. 04

      Decision and set-up

If it comes back accepted, we talk you through the terms and the price, then set the plan up. No payment is taken upfront.

    What acceptance could unlock

This is why the extra steps are worth it. Traditional cover is usually far more comprehensive.

    Much larger sums assured

Enough to clear a mortgage or replace an income, rather than a small fixed lump sum.

    Cover from day one

Traditional life cover pays out from the start of the policy. There's no waiting period to serve.

    Family and mortgage protection

Cover can be set up to match your mortgage term or to protect your family while your children are growing up.

    Joint or single plans

Cover yourself, or you and your partner together, depending on what you need to protect.

    Whole of market

We approach the specialist insurers most likely to consider your cancer history rather than one provider.

Being in remission doesn't guarantee acceptance

We'd rather be straight with you. Every insurer sets its own underwriting criteria and the decision depends on your cancer type, your treatment, how long you've been in remission and your wider health. Some applications are accepted at standard terms, some at a higher premium or with exclusions, and some are declined.

If the traditional route isn't available to you, you're not stuck. We move you straight to our guaranteed-acceptance options, where nobody is turned down.

    Common questions

There's no single answer. Some insurers will consider an application within a couple of years of treatment ending, others want longer, and it varies by cancer type and stage. That's exactly what we check for you before any application is submitted.

It's a fuller set of questions about your medical history, your cancer diagnosis and treatment, and general lifestyle factors such as smoking, alcohol and BMI. We complete it with you so nothing is missed or misworded.

It confirms your medical history directly from your medical records, which lets the insurer assess your application accurately rather than assuming the worst. You don't need to arrange anything. The insurer requests it and we keep track of progress for you.

It can. Insurers may offer standard terms, a higher premium, or an exclusion depending on your history. We'll show you exactly what's been offered and explain it in plain English before you decide anything.

Nothing is lost. We move you to our guaranteed-acceptance options, including our Cancer & Hospital Cover plan, where there are no health questions and nobody is turned down.

No. There are no fees to you. We're paid by the insurer when a plan is set up, and there's no obligation at any point.

No. There's no upfront payment. Cover is paid by monthly direct debit, and the first payment typically comes out two to four weeks after set-up.
